About us

Who is behind Salty Plum Australia

We are a small group of people who have worked with salty plums in Darwin — importing, selling and packing them — for many years. This site is where we put the knowledge that does not fit on a product page: the varieties, the history, the label questions and the recipes.

Why this site exists

For years we have answered the same questions from customers: Are they actually salty? Why is this one red? What is li hing mui? Is umeboshi the same thing? Where can I find them in Sydney? The answers deserve more space than a product description, and they deserve to be accurate.

Salty Plum Australia is our attempt to build the resource we could never find. It is educational first. When a reader is ready to buy, we point them to our online store or the Darwin shop — but the reading experience is not an advertisement.

Our part of the salty plum world

We are connected to two commercial sites, and we keep their roles separate:

This site, saltyplum.com.au, is the information and discovery guide that sits between them.

Corrections and contributions

We would rather be corrected than be confidently wrong. If you spot an error, know a piece of salty plum history we have missed, or have a story about Darwin, get in touch.
